The Immigrant Archive Project (IAP), an organization founded in 2008 to document, preserve, and share the stories of multicultural American immigrants has partnered with The AMPARO™ Experience for a deep-dive into the history of the Arechabala Family – founders of The Real HAVANA CLUB rum. The series of documentary style interviews, five in total, offers a personal, firsthand recollection from Amparo Arechabala, wife of the late Ramon Arechabala, who brought his family’s original HAVANA CLUB rum recipe from Cuba to the United States. Also profiled in the series is Amparo and Ramon’s daughter, Paola Arechabala Consuerga; as well as AMPARO Playwright and Director, Vanessa Garcia and Victoria Collado, respectively. Together, they offer viewers a vivid and extremely powerful picture of the painful past many Cubans share and demonstrate that even in the worst of circumstances, Cubans in exile never accepted their fate.

Inspired by this family’s story of love, loss, and perseverance, Vanessa Garcia and Victoria Collado share how they became “obsessed” with the story of the Arechabala’s, THE REAL HAVANA CLUB rum, and how the theatrical phenomenon, The AMPARO™ Experience, came into existence.
