THE CREEK’S HAUNTING OCTOBER

BEWARE:Nectar lounge in Coconut Creek will look more like Dracula’s Castle in Romania during “The Haunted Creek October” at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.

 

The annual series of weekend events starts off with “Phantom Illusions Weekend” on Fri., Oct. 7featuring magician Brian Brushwood, who has spent the last 12 years touring nationally with his award-winning “bizarre magic” show (www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmoMiY0zAXA). His free shows at the casino on Friday and Saturday night at 8:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. will be a thrill ride mash-up of outrageous stunts, (e.g. escapes, mind reading, sticking nails in his eyes, breaking bricks over his head, conjuring a ghost on your cell phone) award-winning sleight-of-hand, and comedy magic as seen on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and dozens of other TV shows.

 

“Phantom Illusions Weekend” continues on Sat., Oct. 8 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., with A&E’s Paranormal State co-producer, director and star, Ryan Buell (www.aetv.com/paranormal-state) who will sign autographs in a free public meet and greet.

 

During every Haunting October Weekend in October, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek will have a “Monster Motorcade” parade float that’ll roam the casino floor aisles with choreographed shows by Miami’s New Century Dance Company reflecting that weekend’s theme. The first will be the “Skeleton Dance” at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. (7 p.m.-10 p.m.)

 

“Classic Monster Weekend,” Fri., Oct. 14 and Sat., Oct. 15 will feature HBO’s True Blood (www.hbo.com/true-blood/index.html) actors Kristen Bauer and Jim Parrack (Pam and Hoyt) in a free, public meet and greet outside Nectar on Saturday night from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.  If last year is an indication, get there early! The parade float theme and dance will be “Monster Mayhem” hourly 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

 

“Zombie Apocalypse Weekend” on Fri., Oct. 21 and Sat., Oct. 22 will feature yet another great public meet and greet that’s absolutely free with AMC’s The Walking Dead (www.amctv.com/shows/the-walking-dead) star Steven Yeun and movie/TV special effects makeup artist, Toby Sells from 7 until 9 p.m. (Sells is one of the most sought-after make-up artists who’s fabricated everything from prosthetic noses to full animatronic creatures.) The Walking Dead special effects team recently won a Primetime Emmy.  The parade and dance theme will be: “Zombie Breakout” hourly 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. and there’ll be an added feature as the representatives from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention will also present their “Preparedness 101: “Zombie Apocalypse” program.

 

“Creek Creature Weekend” on Fri., Oct. 28, Sat., Oct. 29, and Mon., Oct. 31. Registration for the open-to-the-public Saturday annual Halloween Costume Contest, with thousands of dollars in prizes, will be from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. The contest will begin at 11 p.m. and the winners will be announced around midnight. On Friday night from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m., and Saturday from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., the parade float and dance theme will be “Witching Hour.”

 

On Mon., Oct 31, the casino parade float theme and dance will be “The Best of October” at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m.

 

Actor and comedian John Kassir will serve as special guest MC throughout the festivities each Friday and Saturday (Oct. 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 28, and 29. Perhaps best known as the voice of the Crypt Keeper in HBO’s popular Tales from the Crypt show, Kassir is also known for his voice work as the mischievous Raccoon Meeko in the movie, Pocahontas, and he voiced the Crazy Smurf in The Smurfs film that opened earlier this year. He’s currently heard as the voice of Peter Puma in The Looney Tunes show on the Cartoon Network.

 

Nectar lounge announced that their $6 drink specials for the month will contain (very appropriately) Hornito’s Tequila and Jim Beam Devil’s Cut Whiskey, with a portion of the proceeds donated to Women in Distress for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  The organization will also have a representative at the casino each Saturday in October to promote their 13th annual Safewalk Run 5K on Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m.

 

The special drink concoctions will be:

 

Hornitos Haunted Margarita – Hornitos, schnapps, triple sec, lime juice.

Dark Storm – Hornitos, Cola and grenadine.

Devil Takes Manhattan – Jim Beam Devil’s Cut Whiskey, vermouth, bitters.

Bourbon Street Nightmare – Jim Beam Devil’s Cut Whiskey, cola, triple sec, lemon juice.

 

Shots of “Horn’s Up” Hornitos will be served in a special horned shot glass for only $5 and shots of Chilled Devil’s Cut will be served with a cherry, also for $5.

 

The casino’s Sunset Grill will offer Sam Adams Octoberfest on tap for only $4.50 while supplies last.

 

And there’ll be food specials all month on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and on Halloween from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. They’ll even have caramel apples, candy apples, and popcorn balls “Buy One, Get One” for only $3 to celebrate the season.
