Promenade at Coconut Creek is joining forces with the Coconut Creek community for a very special initiative this fall. Promenade officially announces The Community Mural Project, a custom-designed mural that will celebrate what Coconut Creek means to its residents. This mural will cover the wall of the north garage, located near the Wiles Road entrance, and will officially make its debut in November. During this very special event in October, Coconut Creek residents are invited to help make this mural their own.

“We began the mural design process several months ago with a survey to Coconut Creek residents asking what this community means to them. The feedback we received has been very inspirational in the mural design and we gathered a lot of information about what makes this community so special,” said Robert H. Spratt, Jr., President at Hill Partners, Inc. “This is not only about enhancing the shopping center; it is about bringing the community together.“

Throughout this process, Promenade at Coconut Creek has worked closely with Unconventional Group, a well-respected group specializing in producing and curating large scale public art spaces.Unconventional Group presented several artists that could bring the community’s vision to fruition, and after a lengthy selection process, DAAS was chosen. DAAS is an American contemporary artist, internationally recognized for his bold, colorful, geometric paintings and murals. His murals have graced the walls on public spaces across the United States, Japan, Jordan, China, Nepal, and Italy.

Coconut Creek residents will have the opportunity to take part in painting the mural on Saturday, October 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests will arrive at the event, be provided with a paintbrush and paint and directed to one of the stations. Each station will have a cut-out section of the mural “sketched” in black and white, with numbers signifying which color to use.

As a team or an individual, guests will paint on each of the sections with the guidance of trained artists. This ‘paint-by-numbers’ method will allow the entire community to physically paint a colossal sized mural and leave their mark on Promenade at Coconut Creek for years to come. After the community painting event, professional artists will add final details to the mural, and in November will install the artwork for permanent display for all to see and experience.
