WHAT: Teddy Swims got his stage name by combining his childhood nickname “Teddy” (which he attributes to his large frame) with “Swims” (an acronym for “someone who isn’t me sometimes”).Teddy has been praised for his powerful vocals and his ability to connect with fans through his music, which has amassed him a loyal and dedicated fanbase. Musically he has been inspired from genres including soul, R&B, and country and by artists including Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, andJames Brown. He went viral on YouTube, gaining popularity by posting covers of popular songs. His first cover was Michael Jackson’s “Rock with You” and later covers include Amy Winehouse, Chris Stapleton and Lewis Capaldi. His most viewed cover is Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One” (126 million views and counting). Rolling Stone Magazine has named Teddy Swims an “Artist You Need to Know”
