”Promoting your own work in person is terrifying! There is no hiding behind an electronic device. As thousands of strangers walk by, their faces light up when they see your work… or they don’t.”
As an artist, Susan responded to the changing landscape of public and commercial galleries in the market place by personally reaching out to new audiences. Last year in Canada, she had solo shows in Toronto, Ontario and the inaugural Art!Vancouver on the West Coast.
Susan has been invited to exhibit her work at ‘Artspot Miami International Art Fair’ on Dec 2 through Dec 6, 2015, located in the heart of Miami’s Performing Arts District during Art Basel Miami Week. Her innovative technique alternates meticulously detailed acrylic painting skins with layers of clear glass like resin.
‘Poppy Red’ and ‘Cardinal, Crimson and Coral’ were painted to commemorate the First World War. The poppy was a central feature in the war memorial poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’ by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. Susan grew up in Guelph, Ontario where her mother taught school at John McCrae House. If we want to understand today we need to know and remember what happened yesterday.
