SUNDANCE CHANNEL CELEBRATES GAY PRIDE MONTH WITH NEW EPISODES OF VIRAL SENSATION ‘LIZZY THE LEZZY’

Sundance Channel has commissioned five short films featuring the sassy, animated, lesbian stand-up comic “Lizzy the Lezzy”.  Scheduled to debut on June 6 on Sundance Channel, the series will also be available at sundancechannel.com and on Sundance Channel-on-demand.    Created by animator and filmmaker Ruth Selwyn, “Lizzy the Lezzy” is the first ever animated lesbian stand-up comedian.  The films have become a viral sensation around the world; previous shorts, which have Lizzy taking cracks at love, lust, homosexuality and personal style, have been collectively viewed online over 3.4 million times.

“Lizzy the Lezzy” will air in a block on Sundance Channel on Sunday, June 6th at 11:45 pm. The shorts will be available online at sundancechannel.com on June 3rd and on VOD on June 9th

Episode descriptions for “Lizzy The Lezzy”

  1. Universal Love: Lizzy the Lezzy shares some of her thoughts and experiences with love, making it clear that love is for everyone, whatever their sexuality.
  2. Love is…: Lizzy loves to write poetry and in this classic rhyming episode she describes the many things that she thinks love is.
  3. Breasts: Lizzy is a lesbian who is obsessed with breasts, especially those belonging to her girlfriends!
  4. Lesbian Break-ups: Lizzy talks about how hard it is to break out of a lesbian relationship, especially when the lesbian scene is so small that it’s hard to avoid your exes.
  5. Doctors & Nurses: Lizzy is accompanied by her best friend Gary the Gay and the two reminisce about some of their childhood experiences together.

The shorts block will repeat on Sundance Channel on Sunday, June 6th at 11:45 pm; Monday, June 7th at 9:35 pm; Friday, June 11th 11:25 pm; Friday, June 17th at 9:45 pm and Sunday, June 20th at 12:00 am.  

About Ruth Selwyn

Ruth Selwyn, the creator of the first lesbian standup comedy animation “Lizzy the Lezzy” emigrated from the UK to Israel in 1992, and has since been living and working in Tel-Aviv as a freelance flash animator, web designer and filmmaker. In 2004 Ruth took a year out to direct a documentary for Channel 5 in the UK, “The Woman with Seven Personalities” about an old school friend who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder and in 2006 Ruth made four short films entitled “Israel for Sale” for Channel 4 UK, about four Israeli estate agents from different parts of the country. Ruth created Lizzy the Lezzy in October 2006 and Lizzy episodes have been broadcast on LOGO TV and also in a special episode on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign for the L Word Season 5 State-wide Premier parties. Ruth has also written and produced a Lizzy the Lezzy rhyming comic book.
