STUDENTS FROM CITRUS GROVE ELEMENTARY IN LITTLE HAVANA TO RECEIVE NEW PLAYGROUND

After two years unable to access their condemned school playground, the students from Citrus Grove Elementary will be receiving a state-of-the-art playground, together with a new community garden, a school mural and nutrition plan to encourage healthy living.

The Marlins together with GMCC Leadership Miami and Hunt Construction Group will be building a new playground for the students of Citrus Grove Elementary. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to improve the community of Little Havana.  Media is invited to attend Field Day at Citrus Grove Elementary (2121 NW 5th Street, Miami, FL) on Tuesday, April 26 at 10 A.M. Marlins and Hunt Construction Group will present a check for $40,000 to the school.

During Field Day, members of the Marlins Ayudan Team will demolish the old condemned playground and plant a new community garden. Students from Citrus Grove Elementary will be on-site to join the festivities with bounce houses, games, giveaways and special appearances from Billy the Marlin and Marlins Mermaids. The GMCC Leadership Miami team will also educate the students on the importance of eating healthy and living an active lifestyle.

Marlins President David Samson, together with City of Miami and Miami-Dade County officials will be attending this event.

“Building a playground for the kids of our future neighborhood is part of the Marlins ongoing commitment to the Little Havana community and to South Florida”, said Alfredo Mesa, Executive Director of the Marlins Community Foundation. “From public infrastructure improvements to the area to future economic impact, the Marlins will continue to prioritize the development of our future neighbors’ quality of life.”
