SPECIALTY TOURS & PROGRAMS AT THE DEERING ESTATE

The Deering Estate offers a variety of specialty tours and programs that are free with general admission to the Estate. Tours are lead by the Deering Estate’s Education and Interpretive Staff – a highly trained group of individuals who are dedicated in preserving and interpreting the invaluable resources found at the Estate. As of October 1, 2010, the cost for general admission to the Deering Estate is $12 for adults and $7 for children (ages 4-14).

  • Pine Rockland Trail Hike: Sunday, October 3rd, November 7th & December 5th
    Walk with the Estate’s naturalists among slash pines and an incredibly diverse understory of shrubby and herbaceous vegetation. You will see numerous endangered plant and animal species that live in this area – some are included on the federally endangered list. Free with Estate admission.
  • Tekesta Trail Tour: Sunday, October 10th, November 14th & December 12th
    This special walking tour introduces the public to the Tekesta – a Native American people who canoed the waters of Biscayne Bay and hunted on the high ground of the Miami Rock Ridge on the land known today as the Deering Estate at Cutler. Free with Estate Admission.
  • Butterfly Walk: Saturday, October 16th, November 20th, & December 18th
    Weather you’re looking to photograph the elusive Dingy Purplewing or just want to appreciate some of nature’s most delicate beauties, butterflies abound at the Deering Estate at Cutler. Free with Estate admission.
  • “Book Nook by the Bay”: Saturday, October 16th, November 20th, & December 18th
    The rich resources of the Estate are open to the public for family story time, on-site eco-arts and crafts, science programs and more! Each month, the Estate offers to the public an environmentally themed topic, story-time and a host of activities. Free with Estate admission.
  • Artist Village Open Studio Tour: Saturday, October 16th, November 20th, & December 18th
    The Artist Village at the Deering Estate provides studio, exhibit, and classroom space for local writers, poets, painters, and sculptors. Interact with emerging artists, and learn about their area of expertise, as they create, display, and sell original works of art. Free with Estate admission.
  • Butterfly Gardening Club: Sunday, October 17th, November 21st, & December 19th
    Learn about the different butterfly species that reside in and migrate through Florida.  Seed your own native plants and shrubs to take home that will attract Florida wildlife. Free with Estate admission.
  • Nite Hike: Thursday, October 21st, November 18th, & December 16th
    This hike offers visitors a rare opportunity to view the woods and it’s wildlife as it comes to life at night. Free with Estate admission.
  • Bird Walk: Saturday, October 9th, November 13th & December 11th
    Join a Deering Education and Interpretive Staff Member in search of some of the Estate’s estimated 170 perennial and migratory bird species. Free with Estate admission.

About the Deering Estate at Cutler

The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami-Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue in Miami. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation. Historic house tours are offered daily at 10:30 am & 3:00 pm. Natural areas tours are offered daily at 12:30 pm (October – May).
