William Davis, known to his friends and co-workers as Willo.  Willo grew up in the Carol City/Miami Gardens area.  Though living in South Florida with its water activities and beaches, he could count on one hand the times he experienced them.  Then came Shake-A-Leg Miami.

Willo began his journey at Shake-A-Leg Miami as a volunteer before an official academic internship through Florida International University. He lead activities as well as instruction with various corporate outing groups.  He was soon offered a position as an outdoor educator.

“During my time at Shake-A-Leg Miami I noticed a void in the participation of youth from Miami Gardens specifically Carol City,” stated Willo.  “I often fancied the idea of youth from Carol City getting the opportunity to experience what I experienced.  Eventually I found a way to have youth from my community have their very own day to enjoy the wonders of water.”

On March 31st, 2019 his vision came to life.  Through his efforts, Carol SEADay allowed 60 of the Carol City / Miami Gardens youth and their parents to experience a day out on Biscayne Bay.  Sailing, Kayaking, swimming, picnicking and many other activities.  It was a wonderful experience for all involved and made a difference in many lives.

But Willo isn’t stopping there.  He has another Carol SEADay already scheduled.  His next group of young people and their parents will arrive at Shake-A-Leg Miami on Sunday, June 9that Noon.  And a splendid time is guarantees for All!

For more than 27 years Shake-A-Leg Miami (SALM), in partnership with the City of Miami, has carried out its mission of providing access to Biscayne Bay for all!  Over this time many thousands of disabled and disadvantaged children, adults and families have experienced the joys of water centric activities through the extensive variety of programs that have been initiated through this well-respected non-profit organization.  Approved by both Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami, Shake-A-Leg’s Coconut Grove bayfront marina location continues to function as one of the most accessible community boating center in South Florida.
