WHAT:           Brash New Jersey-based rockers Skid Row were one of the very last metal outfits to hit the mainstream before grunge took over in the early ’90s. Skid Row were formed in 1986 by bassist Rachel Bolan and former Bon Jovi guitarist Dave “The Snake” Sabo. While the band’s self-titled debut employed standard pop-metal riffs and lyrics (albeit to great commercial success with the hits “18 and Life,” “I Remember You,” and “Youth Gone Wild”),  Slave to the Grind and  Subhuman Race broke the mold with uncharacteristically hard, thrashy guitars and unique songwriting techniques. Early 2022 saw the arrival of the rousing, old-school-sounding single “The Gang’s All Here,” which featured new singer Erik Grönwall, formerly of Swedish hard rockers H.E.A.T. The track appeared on the full-length album of the same name.

Arriving in the late ’90s Buckcherry proudly kept the torch of hard rock sleaze burning. The band styled themselves as deliberate throwbacks to the glory days of the ’80s Sunset Strip, acting as if their peers were Mötley Crüe instead of Limp Bizkit. For a while, this defiance of contemporary rock norms was wildly successful for the band. Their eponymous debut generated the number one mainstream rock hit“Lit Up,” which was enough to keep the band afloat until they had an unexpected hit with their third album, 15. Boasting the sordid rocker “Crazy Bitch” and “Sorry” (a power ballad that cracked the Top Ten), the album was certified platinum, a success that buoyed the band for two decades and numerous lineup changes, always anchored by singer Josh Todd. This December, Buckcherry will be completing a 238-show tour in support of their album Hellbound, released in June of 2021. The band also just finished recording their 10th studio album in Nashville with producer Marti Frederiksen. The album is scheduled for a June 2023 release.
