Miami Light Project and the South Beach Comedy Festival present Mad Cat Theatre company’s hilarious ode to this history of Ireland, Shepherd’s Pie on January 20, 2010 at the Colony Theater, as the South Beach Comedy Festival Kick Off event!

Written by Ivonne Azurdia and Paul Tei, and directed by Paul Tei, Shepherd’s Pie is a rollicking ride through the history of Ireland and the story of Saint Patrick, and how he went from godless slave to smiting religious converter.  Told through rhyme, song and cabaret style shenanigans, Shepherd’s Pie features some of South Florida’s best theatrical talent, including Todd Allen Durkin, Erik Fabregat, Ivonne Azurdia, Sofia Citarella Amy McKenna and  Betsy Graver.

Mad Cat was founded in the fall of 2000 by artistic director, Paul Tei.  After leaving Juggerknot Theatre Co. in 2000, he set out to start his own theatre company and his own rules.  It was always a dream for Paul to create a theatre company and form it much like a band, with a core playwright writing original scripts, core acting members, and a team of talented designers rounding out the group.  Highly influenced by Steppenwolf’s idea of a core company, that allows the audience to grow with them, and the late night theatre in Chicago, which introduces irreverent pieces that are generally geared to younger audiences.  He decided to implement this into his own company and take it from there. Mad Cat is highly influenced by several areas of art:  movies, pop art, magazines, comic books, thrift stores, bowling alleys, pari-mutuels, dive bars and television.  Mad Cat is a theatre company for people looking for an alternative to your mom and pop’s theatre company. In residence at Miami Light Project’s Light Box since inception, this performance marks the company’s first time appearance at the South Beach Comedy Festival, and Mad Cat’s first performance out side of the Light Box.
