Scholl Lecture Series: Carrie Mae Weems | Renowned Conceptual Artist

Feb 8th

Join us at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) for the first Scholl Lecture Series of 2024, featuring renowned conceptual artist Carrie Mae Weems. Weems unpacks and confronts constructions of race and femininity in the pursuit of new models to live by.

Grounded in the specificity of her lived experience as a Black woman but universal in its explorations of family relationships, cultural identity, power structures, and social hierarchy, her artistic practice is primarily photographic but also incorporates text, fabric, audio, installation, and video. Learn about Weems’ lifelong artistic practice and her approach to image-making from the artist herself. Weems’ work, The Blues, 2017, was acquired by PAMM’s Fund for Black Art and is currently on view in the Lori and Milton Ferrell Gallery.
