Having sold more than seven million albums worldwide and coming off his #1 chart topping album of last year, De Bohemia, international recording artist Charlie Zaa is preparing to release a special 15th anniversary edition of his debut album, Sentimientos (Feelings). The album which was recently certified 10x multi-platinum Latino by the RIAA is one of the best selling Spanish language albums of all time.  Zaa is also only one of a few Spanish recording only artists to sell a million copies of an album in the United States. The special collector’s 15th Anniversary Edition, which has been unavailable for years, is also being released digitally for the first time on November 6.

Ever since Zaa was young, he knew that he wanted to be a singer.  Influenced by father, Luis Humberto Sánchez, a tropical artist, Carlos Alberto Sánchez grew-up listening to the songs of Groupo Niche, Orquesta Guayacán and Héctor Lavoe.  The first time he stepped on stage was in his hometown of Girardot, Colombia, at the tender age of 10 singing with a group called Espinal. Upon the strength of his performance, he was asked to join La Gran Escala.

At the age of 12, Zaa left his home for Cali with 60 thousand pesos that his mother had given him, four changes of clothes and a bible under his arm.  Within two months, he was already recording with Alma Del Barrio (Soul of the Neighborhood).  During his time with the group, Jairo Varela took notice of his talent and asked him to join Groupo Niche.  After Niche, Zaa joined Guayacán and completed a successful tour of Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, the United States and several European countries.

After recording two albums with Guayacán he decided to leave the group and take his career in another direction.  A year and a half later, Zaa decided to interpret classic boleros and re-recorded various hit songs by Julio Jaramillo.  These romantic songs made up his first solo album, Sentimientos (Feelings) which was released in 1997 and garnered him international recognition when with the release he achieved gold and platinum status in Latin America with sales of more than 3.2 million copies, worldwide. In the United States, the album climbed to #1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums and Tropical Albums chart.  He received Latin Billboard Awards, Premio Lo Nuestro, nominations for the Latin GRAMMY awards, Premio Casandra, Gaviotas de Plata, Antorchas de Oro at the Festival Viña del Mar in Chile and the Prisma de Diamante.

Un Segundo Sentimiento (A Second Feeling) (1998) was his follow-up that topped Billboard’s Tropical Albums chart, and Ciego de Amor (Blind from Love) (2000) reached #2 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart.  The latter production included collaborations with Emilio Estefan Jr. and Jon Secada which yielded “Por tu Amor” (For Your Love), the theme to the Telenovela of the same name. “Donde Esta El Amor” (Where is the Love) topped Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart becoming one of his signature hits.

In 2002, Zaa released De un solo Sentimiento (Of One Single Feeling), and achieved huge sales throughout Latin America and earning him a Latin GRAMMY nomination and his first #1 single on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, “Flor Sin Retono.”  Zaa went on to perform on some of world’s most prestigious stages including Teatro Bellas Artes de Puerto Rico, Universal Amphitheater de Los Ángeles (Gibson Amphitheater), Quinta Vergara in Viña del Mar, Chile; Festival de la Bahía in Argentina and at New York’s Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall.

After a long and spiritual hiatus, Charlie Zaa is ready for the next chapter.
