Walking onto the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium for Rolling Loud Miami 2024, I was greeted by a vibrant sea of colors, sounds, and energy that only a hip-hop festival could conjure. Wearing my Rasta beanie, adorned with the iconic prints of ganja, I felt an exhilarating kinship with both the free spirit of hip-hop and its reggae roots. This cultural phenomenon was a loud declaration of artistry that spans generations.
Rolling Loud, celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year, has become the foremost platform for hip-hop, where established legends share the stage with tomorrow’s stars. Over the course of three nights—from December 13 to 15, 2024—attendees were treated to performances from esteemed artists like Future, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, NLE Choppa, Sexyy Red, and many more, all amidst a gathering of over 200,000 fans.
Rolling Loud represents a larger cultural tapestry where this year, Zig-Zag, the iconic rolling paper brand, took center stage in this narrative, showcasing its unique relationship with hip-hop culture through its lavish booth located in the exclusive 21+ area of the festival. My invitation from Zig-Zag to experience their brand activations alongside the music felt like a ticket to the heart of hip-hop itself.
Zig-Zag’s connection to hip-hop runs deep, beyond rolling papers and is rooted in its storied 145-year history. Known for producing some of the world’s most recognized rolling papers, the brand became a cultural icon following the release of Dr. Dre’s seminal album, “The Chronic,” in 1992. Featuring the Zig-Zag emblem prominently on its cover, the album not only propelled Dre into superstardom but also cemented Zig-Zag’s place within the hip-hop community. The nod to the brand introduced a new wave of recognition, linking it forever with the counterculture movement epitomized by hip-hop.
In the years since, Zig-Zag has consistently grown alongside the genre, adapting to its evolving demands while remaining a staple at festivals and events. From its traditional rolling papers to innovative new products, Zig-Zag captures the essence of creativity and self-expression inherent in hip-hop culture.
This year’s Rolling Loud was a perfect opportunity for Zig-Zag to unveil its latest vintage collection, a homage to its rich heritage and the artistic spirit of hip-hop. As I entered the Zig-Zag booth, I found a dedicated lounge area complete with charging outlets for mobile devices, complimentary branded bandanas, and wristbands, interactive displays encouraging attendee engagement, as well as photo opportunities against vintage-themed backdrops that celebrated the brand’s long-standing legacy.
The 10-year anniversary festival brought together not just music lovers but a community passionate about expression, creativity, and heritage. The VIP invitation, which included exclusive access to the lounge and concert, allowed me to immerse myself fully in this celebration.
As I roamed through the pop-up village filled with various activations, I bumped into fellow fans who had shared love for both hip-hop and Zig-Zag. Conversations flowed like the music that surrounded us, each interaction reinforcing the idea that this festival represented a larger movement—a perfect blend of music, art, and lifestyle.
Rolling Loud, founded in 2015 by childhood friends Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif, has transformed into a global phenomenon, showcasing hip-hop’s evolution while serving as a launchpad for emerging talents. In the decade since its inception, it has hosted unforgettable moments that have defined the genre, from Lil Uzi Vert’s legendary stage dive to Ice Spice’s debut performance. Here, history is made, stories are told, and cultures are embraced.
Standing among a crowd of hip-hop aficionados, I realized that my presence at Rolling Loud Miami 2024 was not just a casual outing—it was a moment of freedom, self expression, and unity. A place where Zig-Zag continues to roll with the times.
The Zig-Zag lounge was was adorned with vivid murals celebrating hip-hop legends alongside interactive displays that encouraged attendees to engage and connect. There were rolling stations set up where festival-goers could learn how to roll like pros—or simply enjoy a moment of respite from the frenetic energy of the main stages.
In this community gathering, Fans connected over their love for hip-hop, exchanging stories about concerts they’d attended, their favorite artists, and even sharing tips on the best places to grab food inside the festival. The blend of vibes, from the hardcore fans in the front rows to the casual observers lounging, created a unique atmosphere that only a festival of this scale could provide.
