Widely regarded as the finest concerto written for any instrument, Felix Mendelssohn’s showstopper for violin features rising star Karen Gomyo, who commands the Romantic masterpiece by spinning “melodic lines with the beauty and insight of a poet” (The Baltimore Sun). Christopher James Lees returns to lead vibrant tone poems by Antonín Dvořák and Richard Strauss, whose Death and Transfiguration is a musical battle between life and death. Meaning Blue Deer, Gabriela Ortiz’s Kauyumari celebrates the spiritual guide of the Huichol people of Mexico.
