Philanthropist Michael Fux Pledges $1 Million to the Mourning Family Foundation

Michael Fux emigrated to the U.S. from Cuba and lived inNewark with his family. Coming from humble beginnings, Fux understands the struggles children and families face from a personal perspective.  Fux has generously made a $1 million planned gift that will further the work of Alonzo and Tracy Mourning and their much heralded Mourning Family Foundation.

This generous donation will be awarded over a five year period in annual installments.

“Part of my own positive experience with Alonzo and Tracy Mourning centers around their love for children, and the fact that they are an open book with respect to their non-profit’s finances.  I feel grateful to be able to give a gift that will have a strong impact on students today and years down the road,” Fux said.

Fux designated his gift to benefit Mourning Family Foundation because of the impact it had on him as a person whom understands the struggles of children from less fortunate backgrounds. The Michael Fux Foundation has been a longtime supporter of children in our community. Through his foundation he has worked with assisting some of the neediest children while they are patients at Miami Children’s Hospital. The Michael Fux Foundation not only assists the children by giving them gifts during the holiday season he also provides donations to the families of these sick children. This One Million Dollar donation is a continuation of that same giving philosophy.

Fux attributes his personal and professional achievements to the experiences he had in the bedding manufacturing industry. As a business owner and one that prides himself in being in the people industry, he understands the importance of leaving a personal legacy.

“Over the past few years, The Mourning Family Foundation has seen tremendous growth in its service population, tripling the children it serves in the last 10 years alone. At present, we have almost doubled the high school graduation rates of the kids that we serve out of our Overtown based Youth Center,” saidAlonzo Mourning.

“The one million dollar planned gift from Michael Fux is a great example for others to follow. We hope that this brings notice to the philanthropic community about the important work that we are doing in Miami. It will certainly help us increase our impact on the kids we serve,” said Alonzo Mourning.

“Michael’s generosity creates great inspiration and energy for our kids,” said Tracy Mourning the visionary leader and founder of Honey Shine, a young girls mentoring program whom will benefit from this donation.
