Pérez Art Museum Miami Teams Up with HistoryMiami Museum To Tell The “Miami Stories” of The City’s Favorite Arts and Culture Moments

Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and HistoryMiami Museum are partnering on a special project to preserve and record our community’s memories of favorite arts and culture moments in South Florida, in connection with PAMM’s latest exhibition, Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Surrounded Islands, Biscayne Bay, Greater Miami, Florida, 1980–83 | A Documentary Exhibition.
Currently on view through February 2019, this exhibition commemorates the 35th anniversary of the artist’s site-specific installation, Surrounded Islands in Miami’s Biscayne Bay — an anniversary that also coincides with the founding of PAMM’s predecessor institution, Center for Fine Arts. The history of Surrounded Islands is inseparable from PAMM’s origin story, and the exhibition reinforces the idea that the museum’s evolution is inextricable from the development of Miami as both a city and an artistic hub.
As part of the HistoryMiami Museum’s “Miami Stories” program, the collaboration invites members of the South Florida community to share their favorite Miami arts and culture memories at a series of upcoming events. HistoryMiami Museum will be on-site during the events with its Miami Stories recording booth, operated by an interviewer who will be asking a series of questions to capture personal stories of life in the Magic City.
The recordings will become a permanent part of HistoryMiami Museum’s ongoing program, Miami Stories. These recordings will be archived at the museum, and may be published in the Miami Herald or broadcast on the radio through WLRN.
The first of a series of “Miami Stories” events is set to take place at HistoryMiami this Saturday, October 13 from 3–7pm. A complete list of event dates, locations and details follows.
