Of Montreal bring their over the top and highly charged live show to the intimate Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theatre on Friday, April 9 at 8:30PM.
Of Montreal is the brainchild of singer/guitarist Kevin Barnes. He was inspired to form the euphoric indie pop group in the wake of a broken romance with a woman from Montreal. From the start, the band buoyed its bright, flamboyant indie pop sound with elements of psychedelia and vaudeville. Lately Barnes has moved in a new direction boosting the group’s oddball pop with its polyperverse, sexed-up lyrics and kitchen-sink range — from hip-hop and disco to freaked-out soul and Stones-y blues. Of Montreal’s live shows have evolved into over-the-top glam spectacles involving surreal props, whimsical sets and multiple costume changes. They have developed a reputation as kind of a Grateful Dead for arty, sexually ambiguous kids.
