NOVEMBER 2020 CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Native American Heritage Month
All Month Long
Join us virtually all month long as we celebrate Native American Heritage Month! With the help of our friends from the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian, we’ve been able to bring you some really fun, authentic experiences. Enjoy stories told by children’s author, Gerald Hausman, and check out other various creation stories from different cultures around the nation. Learn games from the southwest region, create artwork inspired by contemporary Native American artists, and experiment in the kitchen with a traditional Navajo recipe. Create crafts inspired by the Seminole Tribe here in South Florida and use your STEM skills to recreate different types of traditional Native American homes.
Our Native American Heritage Month celebration is sponsored by Capital One.
A Thankful Sensory Friendly Saturday
Saturday, November 14
On the second Saturday of every month, Miami Children’s Museum offers a sensory friendly experience for children with disabilities and their families. This month, we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving with an emphasis on togetherness and socializing. Doing social activities with your child can help build confidence, practice taking turns and sharing, and is a fun way to play and bond. As a family, create your own Thanksgiving garland to hang and decorate your home. Check out our videos where you can enjoy a story together and cook your own homemade applesauce.
Even at home, our goal is to provide your child with the opportunity to engage in social interactions and improve their processing and regulation of sensory input to optimize their understanding of and participation in natural environments. Check out Museum at Home and our social media channels for a day filled with sensory activities!
