Explore the motivations and responsibilities behind building a contemporary art collection through the eyes, mind and heart of the husband-and-wife collecting team of Dr. Arturo and Liza Mosquera. Over 85 original works by more than 70 contemporary Cuban and Cuban-American artists selected from the couple’s collection, including painting, sculpture, works on paper, and photographs will be publicly showcased for the first time.

The exhibit tells the story of their passion for collecting through a narrative of quotes and observations about the history and development of their 20-year collection. It highlights their personal adventures in art collecting and tackles such themes as collecting as a way of life, relationships with living artists, how collectors create meaning through their collections, and what they envision as the legacy of their activities. It will also recognize the Mosqueras’ significant contribution to the South Florida art scene through their programming of exhibitions for emerging and established artists at Dr. Mosquera’s orthodontic office in the Westchester neighborhood of Miami-Dade County and at Farside Gallery, their other non-commercial, alternative art space. The exhibition is curated by the sister team of Cristina and Vivian Nosti, whom for purposes of their artistic ventures together are known as DUO NOSTI.

A series of weekly gallery talks and panel discussions with the collector and many of the featured artists who live and work in South Florida, will take place during the exhibition period. For more information, contact: the Art Gallery System at 305-237-7700, or galleries@mdc.edu.
