Miami: March 8 – 13

National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) kicks off its 2016 regional programs beginning in Los Angeles, and followed by Miami and New York this March and April, respectively. Modeled after the organization’s signature program National YoungArts Week, YoungArts regional programs offer transformative experiences to YoungArts Winners from all award levels through interdisciplinary workshops, seminars and master classes with renown artists such as Debbie Allen, Vijay Gupta, Joan Scheckel and Franklin Sirmans; opportunities to connect, collaborate and learn from peers and distinguished YoungArts alumni; and public performances, exhibitions and readings at world-class arts institutions in each area. This year, 819 emerging artists from 42 states were selected as YoungArts Winners for their outstanding accomplishments across the literary, visual, design and performing arts from more than 12,000 applications—the largest number to date.

This week in Los Angeles, an exhibition curated by John Tain; jazz and writers readings directed by Bill Pierce; and performances directed by choreographer John Heginbotham and composer and violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain, will take place at Los Angeles Theatre Center. During March 8 to 13 in Miami, an exhibition curated by Diana Nawi and performances directed by revered teachers Jen Waldman (1993 Winner in Theater) and Yara Travieso (2005 Winner in Dance) will be presented at Colony Theatre and the YoungArts Campus. During April 12 to 17 in New York, performances at Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) will be directed by BAC’s Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov, with Artistic Administrator Pedja Muzijevic and violinist Christian Hebel.
