Mystic Visage

World Class Boxing, the Miami-based exhibition space of the Debra and Dennis Scholl Collection, is proud to announce the opening of Mystic Visage, curated by Desiree Cronk. The exhibition includes a selection of works from the Scholl Collection, including photography, sculpture, and drawing; with works by Fergus Greer, Adam Helms, Pepe Mar, Lee Materazzi, William J. O’Brien, Gabriel Orozco, Cindy Sherman, Josh Smith, and Jack Strange.

Mystic Visage is an exploration of the idea of masks and their mythical, practical, poetic and universal functions, such as protection and disguise. Masks- psychological, metaphorical, and real, give us the courage to speak freely, help us transcend physical limitations, and add mystery and power to our rituals.

For over a decade, Debra and Dennis Scholl, renowned contemporary art collectors, have been inviting curators to interact with their collection. Since 2008, Desiree Cronk is Director of The Debra and Dennis Scholl Collection, having worked previously at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. This is her second curatorial project at the collection, following “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” in 2008.

Mystic Visage opens June 12, 2010, from 7-10pm and runs through July 31, 2010. World Class Boxing is open Monday through Friday 10am-5pm, and is located at 170 NW 23rd Street, Miami FL 33127.
