MUSEUM HOP THROUGH MIAMI’S DIVERSE CULTURAL SCENE

With International Museum Day on May 18, Greater Miami and the Beaches will once again honor the cultural occasion with Miami Museum Month! The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) has partnered with Greater Miami and the Beaches’ museums to bring savings to visitors and locals during the entire month of May. Participants can take advantage of special offerings including “Buy One, Get One Free admission” and “Join One Museum, See Them All” using coupons available for download at MiamiMuseumMonth.com. Official sponsor Citibank® will also provide cardholders with a 10 percent discount at participating museum stores for the month-long program.

Celebrating Heritage with the Black Archives
Miami Museum Month began yesterday, Sunday, May 1 with the long-awaited reopening dedication ceremony of the Black Archives archival collection, now located at its new home in Overtown at the newly opened Historic Lyric Theater Cultural Arts Complex. Led by the Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South Florida Inc., donors, invited guests, or Archival Level Members ($150), are invited to enjoy a wine and cheese reception, tours of the Archival Repository and Black Archives Select Collectionexhibition. Following the private opening ceremony, Miami native, archivist, historian and Black Archives founder Dr. Dorothy Fields will moderate a Q&A discussion with leading community scholars and personalities focused on monumental moments that have impacted South Florida residents. The Official Miami Museum Month Kickoff
Today, Monday, May 2, the GMCVB will host the official Miami Museum Month kickoff allowing visitors and residents to witness the ribbon cutting of the newly-branded Art Deco Welcome Center. Open to the public, the event will take place from 6-8PM at the Art Deco Museum,  located at 1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Come enjoy light bites, drinks and an exclusive preview of their new exhibit: A Walk Down Memory Lane – South Beach Photos from the Late 1970’s to Early 1980’s.
 
MAISON&OBJET Returns to Miami Beach
Following a successful U.S. debut, international home industry event MAISON&OBJET returns to Miami Beach for a second consecutive year on May 10-13, providing guests with an exclusive look at décor and design offerings from 300 upscale brands. In celebration of the annual event and Miami Museum Month, a select number of local museums will display art pieces from some of MAISON&OBJET’s emerging artists throughout May.
