Muñoz and Company Presents Mestizo City

Muñoz and Company Presents Mestizo City
81 NE 40th Street
Mestizo City, created by San Antonio-based designer and social activist, Henry R. Muñoz III, is a 6,700 square-foot site-specific installation representing the vibrant and varied Latino culture and its growing influence in the United States. The recent Presidential election marked the historic Latino impact on the election outcome. Mestizo City in a timely way explores this recent demographic shift. The installation incorporates and wittily reinterprets some of the most recognizable visual and social elements associated with the Latino culture: inflatable structures, a taco truck, Jarritos bottles, bright colors, informal concepts of space and street art. Muñoz envisions a Latino imprint on U.S. design culture and Mestizo City, born of Mestizo Regionalism, an emerging architectural sensibility, which encompasses the realities of daily life as it is lived along the Texas-Mexico border, will stimulate debate over the different modes of incorporating Latino culture in the design world. The Press Preview will take place Thursday, December 6 from 6:30-10 PM. Installation will be on view from December 7-8, 11:00AM – 6:00PM.
