Hot on the heels from a triumphant win over the Patriots, the Miami Dolphins announced today that multi-platinum selling rock band CHEAP TRICK will be the main act at the Land Shark Tailgate Stage on the AT&T Grand Plaza on Sunday, December 27th, prior to the Dolphins-Texans game, with a live performance starting at 12 nCheap_Trick_Photooon. The group will also sign copies of their most current release, The Latest, at the Dolphins team store after the game. The new CD has garnered glowing reviews worldwide and continues CHEAP TRICK’S reign as power-pop progenitors as they celebrate their 35th anniversary together.

Following a solo guitar rendition of the national anthem to kick-off the game by Orianthi, the luminary guitarist who stars in Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” movie and who herself has a current hit song entitled “According To You,” the Texans game will also feature a halftime performance by CHEAP TRICK’S Rick Nielsen who will be joined by Brian Ray of the Paul McCartney band and Orianthi herself for a Gibson Guitar Tribute to Les Paul.  The Gibson Guitar Tribute was an idea conceived by its musical director, Brian Ray that will also feature 100 guest youth guitarists.

“On behalf of the band, we are very excited to be part of the Miami Dolphins game day experience,” says Rick Nielsen from Cheap Trick.  “It’s an honor to play among such acclaimed musicians for the halftime Gibson Guitar Tribute to Les Paul.  We look forward to electrifying the fans before and during the game!”

With more than 5,000 performances, 29 movie soundtracks and 40 gold and platinum recording awards, the band was honored in October 2007 by the Chicago Chapter of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) fOrianthi_300RGBor their contributions to the music industry.

Having attracted artists such as Jimmy Buffett, Joe Perry and the Joe Perry Project, Carmit Bachar of the Pussycat Dolls, Latin Grammy award-winning artists Jesse & Joy for Hispanic Heritage Month, American Idol winner, Kris Allen, 2009 CMA Musician of the Year, Mac McAnally and legendary Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, the Land Shark Tailgate Stage has become a much anticipated part of the Dolphins’ home-game experience.
