Morton’s The Steakhouse and the hamburger

Morton’s The Steakhouse and the hamburger that started it all…
Founded in 1978 in Chicago, Morton’s The Steakhouse is the largest company-owned and operated fine-dining restaurant brand in the world. The Coral Gables location is its 81st restaurant.

Morton’s began through sheer accident. Before starting what would become Morton’s, Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch both worked at the Playboy Club in Montreal. While in the process of changing the menu one day, Klaus prepared a hamburger for consideration. Upon tasting it, Arnie burst into the kitchen, demanding to know, “Who cooked that hamburger?” As Klaus stepped forward to claim the distinction, he wasn’t sure if Arnie was pleased or not. Thankfully, Arnie exclaimed that it was the best he’d ever tasted. From that day forward, they worked together coining their signature burger the “Million-Dollar Hamburger” after the sandwich that started it all.
