Modern dance set to classical scores – RIOULT DANCE NY – Dec 11 & 12

unnamed-4The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly presents RIOULT Dance NY, the New York-based modern dance company led by internationally renowned choreographer Pascal Rioult. RIOULT Dance NY performs sensual, articulate and musical dance works set to classical instrumentations. The powerful 10-member company will energize the intimate Carnival Studio Theater with two performances – December 11 and 12, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $45* and may be purchased through the Adrienne Arsht Center Box Office by calling (305) 949-6722 or online at www.arshtcenter.org. Tickets are available to Arsht Center members now and to the general public on November 2.

The program includes four dances from Rioult’s vast and varied repertory: Views of the Fleeting World, City, Wien, and Bolero. Views of the Fleeting World, inspired by the ancient woodblock prints of Japanese master Hiroshige and the ingenious structure of J.S. Bach’s “The Art of Fugue,” elegantly explores the ephemeral quality of living things and the eternal cycle of life. Wien depicts European society between the two world wars. A darkly fascinating take on Ravel and the Viennese waltz, Wein is the very image of social refinement which becomes the symbol of social disarray and decay. Backstage Magazine described the piece as a work that “evokes shivers and thunderous applause.” City, set to J.S. Bach’s “Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord #6 in G major”, explores the human spirit in the urban environment and uses dramatic projections as the scene-scape. The program closes with Rioult’s Bolero, a bold interpretation of Ravel’s famous score ― a spellbinding tour de force.

“Rioult Dance NY’s choreography is known to be riveting and thought-provoking. The emotion driving each piece will be intensified in our intimate Carnival Studio Theater. Rioult’s Miami premiere will create a memorable and moving performing arts experience for our guests,” said Liz Wallace, vice president of programming at the Arsht Center.

Since 1994, husband-and-wife team Pascal Rioult (Artistic Director/Choreographer) and Joyce Herring (Associate Artistic Director) ― both former Martha Graham Dance Company principal dancers –- have been committed to supporting the creation of new works with a vast and varied repertory. Inspired by his mentor Martha Graham, Pascal Rioult presents choreographic journeys which result in awe-inspiring experiences for audiences in the US and abroad. The Huffington Post says: “he weaves moments in time from threads of imagination and makes them into dances.”

RIOULT Dance NY celebrated its 20th Anniversary during the 2014-2015 Season. Since its first performances, the company fast became an established name in modern dance with a reputation for bringing the sensual, articulate, and musical dance works of Pascal Rioult to audiences worldwide. With an established repertoire of more than 45 dances that expands each year, RIOULT Dance NY presents an annual New York season and tours nationally and abroad. In addition, in-school arts education and community outreach, both at home and on tour, have been integral to the company since its inception, introducing students and families to the art of modern dance.
