MoAFL offers Fall 2010 Studio School classes for adults/children during major expansion

The Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University, is once again offering its popular Studio School Fall sessions for both adults, and students in grades 1-12. The Studio School Fall session will commence while under construction for its major expansion, scheduled for completion late 2010.  Registration is taking place now through Sept. 17, and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The sessions, which will be held once a week for 10 weeks, will begin Sept. 21 and continue through Dec. 4. Sessions will be offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings or evenings for adults, and on Saturday mornings for students.

Merit and need-based scholarships for the Studio School fall sessions are available for students in grades 1-12. Applicants must submit an example of their work no later than Sept. 17 – visit www.moaflnsu.org for specific guidelines. Scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the student’s submission (for merit) and available funds.

 

WHO:

Adults: Courses offered are Oil Painting, Intro to Drawing, Portrait Oil Painting, Mixed Media, Landscape Oil, Color Theory, Figure Oil Painting, Intro to Illustration, Figure Drawing, Watercolor, and Intro to Painting – Oil and Acrylic.

 

Grades 1-4

Painting, drawing, and design are explored using a variety of materials, with an emphasis on creativity, exploration, art vocabulary, experimentation, and studio etiquette.

Grades 5-8

Subjects covered include design, painting and drawing. Paint handling, the different uses of brushes, color theory, and mixing are practiced. This class continues to build on the elements of design and composition, vocabulary, realistic representation of the subject, creativity, and the overall process involved with creating a work of art.

Grades 9-12

Students will be introduced to Anatomy & Structure (study and analysis of the skeleton and muscular structure of the human figure) using a variety of live models and reference to the skeleton. Fundamental techniques of painting will be taught, including paint handling, surface preparation, color mixing and self-expression. Additionally, portfolio development will be emphasized for students in grades 11 and 12.

-Tuesdays: Oil Painting, 1-3:30 p.m.; Intro to Drawing, 1-3:30 p.m.;

Portrait Oil Painting, 6:30-9 p.m.; Mixed Media, 6:30-9 p.m.

-Wednesdays: Landscape Oil, 1-3:30 p.m.; Color Theory, 1-3:30 p.m.;

Saturdays, Sept. 25-Dec. 4 (excluding Nov. 27) from 9-11:30 a.m.

COST:
ADULTS:

The cost is $225 per session for adults (an additional $50 model fee will automatically be applied if registering for Figure Drawing, Figure Oil, or Portrait Painting.) A $15 registration fee per application (excluding Museum Members and NSU students, faculty and staff) will apply. A multi-class discount is available. Students are required to bring all of their own supplies (a list will be provided on the first day of class.)

STUDENTS:

The tuition is $240 per session for students in grades 1-12. Students in grades 1-8 will be provided all of the art supplies needed for the full semester. Students in grades 9-12 will be provided with basic supplies. High school students will be requested to purchase their own brushes, turnpenoid, and a small selection of oil paints for personal use. A $15 discount will apply to Family/Dual Museum Members, and NSU students, faculty and staff.

A $20 late fee will apply to any registrations received after Sept. 17.

MERIT & NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS:

All scholarships are for tuition only. Scholarships are awarded for 25, 50, or 100 percent of tuition. Students may apply for both merit and need if all qualifications have been met.
