Miami Dolphins Special Teams, Driven by Chevy, Help Beautify Zoo Miami (formerly Metro Zoo)
More than 75 Miami Dolphins Special Teams, Driven by Chevy, volunteers will visit Zoo Miami on July 9, 2011 to paint animal cages and plant 100 ficus trees donated by DynaServ.
“The trees that will be planted will have a long lasting impact at Zoo Miami,” said Luis Valdes, Horticultural Supervisor for Zoo Miami. “These trees will be used in the new browse program and will be the basis for food for the animals.”
Zoo Miami is just the first stop in the Miami Dolphins Special Teams new children and families volunteering initiative.
“Now that summer is here, many of our volunteers have requested more volunteer events where they can include their children. We thought helping and then touring Zoo Miami would be a great opportunity for families to spend quality time together and improve the community at the same time,” said Leslie Nixon, Miami Dolphins Manager of Volunteer Programs.

WHO: About Miami Dolphins Special Teams Program
In 2009, South Florida ranked dead last in the nation in percentage of volunteers and volunteer hours per. To combat this problem, the organization created the special teams program, a volunteer group that offers hands-on services to communities and families in need, to partner with existing organizations on worthwhile social, civic and charitable programs and to support community efforts in times of emergency. To date, the program has 3,204 volunteers that have logged 53,917 of community service, making them the most impactful group of its kind.
