Miami Dolphins Players and Coaches Raise Over $30,000 for Holiday Season

Miami Dolphins players and coaches donated over $30,000 to provide holiday cheer and presents to over 170 students this afternoon from Miami Dade and Broward County Public Schools along with children from foster care programs and additional charities as part of the Fins and Kids Holiday Toy Event.  The day’s festivities began with a dance contest that was emceed by Lousaka Polite and Jake Long and judged by the players at the team’s indoor practice facility.  After the dance contest, participants received holiday toys that were chosen from their own personal wish list and were donated by players and coaches.

“This event means so much to me, especially to see some of the kids from the inner city where I grew up,” said defensive back and Ft. Lauderdale native Benny Sapp. “I know how it is down there and it feels real wonderful to come out and see these kids and put a smile on their face.”

Head Coach Tony Sparano’s wife Jeanette, members of the Miami Dolphins cheerleading squad and a host of players including Ryan Baker, Vernon Carey, Dan Carpenter, John Denney, A.J. Edds, Brandon Fields, Nate Garner, Jake Long, Quentin Moses, Nate Ness, Lousaka Polite, Benny Sapp, Paul Soliai, and Austin Spitler took part in today’s event.

Mark Zaher, the Director of District and School Operations for Dade County had the following to say about the Miami Dolphins commitment within the community, “The Miami Dolphins are one of our best business partners. Last year they won the Exemplary District award for it and it’s events like this that prove why they’re one of our exemplary partners. They’re a phenomenal partner; they really actually touch the kids at grass root levels. We’re just thrilled to always have them as a partner.”
