The Miami Dolphins today announced a series of community activities in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month which include participating in festivities and community events throughout the upcoming week. The week will culminate with a grand celebration at the Dolphins-Jets game on Sunday, September 26th (8:20 P.M. ET, NBC and Telemundo).
“We are proud that the NFL has selected Miami to kickoff their national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) for the second consecutive year,” said Dolphins CEO, Mike Dee. “The Dolphins have one of the largest Hispanic fan bases in the NFL, and the expanded initiatives leading up to Hispanic Heritage Month game reflects our deep commitment to the community here in South Florida.”
On Tuesday, September 21st Dolphins players will take children from Hispanic Unity, a non-profit organization that offers a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees, bowling at SpareZ in Davie. The students from Olsen Middle School will enjoy an afternoon of bowling alongside current Dolphins players.
In conjunction with the City of Hialeah, on Thursday, September 23rd, Dolphins alumni, cheerleaders, TD the mascot and front office staff will participate in a community pep rally at Bucky Dent Park. Fans will meet and great former players and enjoy special Cheerleader performances, live music, games and prizes.
On Saturday, September 25th, the Dolphins Special Teams volunteers will participate in their own Hispanic Heritage celebration with a special beautification project at Barbara Goleman Senior High School in Miami Lakes, Florida. More than 200 students from the predominantly Hispanic high school will join the Special Teams for a landscaping makeover for the 2010-2011 school year. In addition, youth from area feeder schools will take part in a special Dolphins football clinic that will be taught by Dolphins alumni.
Later in the day on Saturday, the Dolphins Cheerleaders, TD and Fins Force will participate in the Coral Gables Hispanic Cultural Festival with the Cheerleaders performing a special Latin dance routine.
All of the week’s activities will culminate with the biggest fiesta in South Florida at Sun Life Stadium on Sunday, September 26th when the Dolphins take on the New York Jets. Among the festivities:
- A spectacular halftime show featuring a live performance by international superstar Enrique Iglesias. Dolphins’ limited partner and seven-time Grammy-award winner Gloria Estefan will introduce Iglesias;
- Five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and Dolphins’ limited partner, Marc Anthony, and Dolphins’ limited partner Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, will sing the national anthem;
- Getting things started at the tailgate stage will be the highly esteemed Texas rocker Alejandro Escovedo;.
- Hispanic celebrities will be on hand walking down the Celebrity Orange Carpet;
- “Celebra En Grande” Latin music stage on the AT&T Grand Plaza with salsa dancers;
- Integration of Latin music, special graphics and Hispanic celebrity video messages in-stadium throughout the game.
Telemundo will broadcast its first-ever “Sunday Night Football” game on its New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Miami Telemundo stations. All Dolphins’ game can be heard locally in Spanish on WQBA 1140-AM, the Dolphins official Spanish-language radio station.

El sábado, 25 de septiembre, voluntarios de los Equipos Especiales de los Dolphins participarán en su propia celebración del Mes de la Hispanidad con un proyecto para embellecer la escuela Barbara Goleman Senior High School en Miami Lakes, FL. Más de 200 estudiantes de esta escuela con una mayoría de estudiantes hispanos, se unirán a los Equipos Especiales para embellecer las áreas verdes de la escuela. Además, jóvenes de escuelas locales participarán en una clase especial de fútbol con la instrucción de ex jugadores de los Dolphins.
Después, ese mismo sábado, las animadoras de los Dolphins, TD y Fins Force participarán en el Festival Cultural Hispano de Gables donde las animadoras darán una actuación al ritmo latino.
