MIAMI CITY BALLET 24TH SEASON OPENS NOVEMBER 6 WITH A PAUL TAYLOR FAVORITE AND THREE GEORGE BALANCHINE CLASSICS
Miami City Ballet (MCB) 24th Season will open with Program I, featuring Paul Taylor’s Company B
Allegro Brillante (Balanchine/Tchaikovsky) – A classical ballet of non-stop movement, this is a cascade of ever-changing configurations – a sure test of talent and stamina.
Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux (Balanchine/Tchaikovsky) – Balanchine’s tour de force duet features eight and a half minutes of the choreographer’s signature traits: his surprises, his complexities, his challenging quirks and combinations. At times it would seem more like a flight plan, while the dazzle of it suggests the best of Broadway. Balanchine called it “a display piece, based on the music and the maximum gifts of virtuoso performers.”
Company B (Taylor/Andrews Sisters) – This Paul Taylor signature piece is performed to carefree World War II hits by The Andrews Sisters (“Rum and Coca-Cola,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Oh, Johnny, Oh!”) contrasted with the melancholy realities of soldiers at war.
Symphony in Three Movements (Balanchine/Stravinsky) – Containing some of the most dynamic and interesting patterns found in dance, this large-cast Balanchine masterwork is set to a driving Stravinsky score.

MCB: Critically acclaimed by The New York Times, MCB was founded in 1985 by Artistic Director Edward Villella. The Company has 45 dancers, and a repertoire of 88 ballets which they perform in the four home counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Collier, and around the world.
