MIAMI CHILDREN’S MUSEUM “GOING GREEN” INITIATIVE

The Miami Children’s Museum is launching an Initiative to promote “Going Green” and in this case is leading by example.  Fueled by a $1 million grant form the US Dept. of Energy, the Museum will educate the public on the necessity to preserve and protect the world’s natural resources and will utilize environmentally advanced, sustainable, renewable and/or recyclable materials and systems throughout its facility.  The project is geared to reduce energy consumption by up to 20% within the Museum’s facility.

The Miami Children’s Museum’s “Going Green” Initiative project scope falls within DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) program.  The Objective of the Initiative is to educate the children within its educational facility, outreach programs and museum patrons on the benefits and necessity of becoming energy efficient and utilizing renewable energy sources.  The Museum will accomplish this objective through the installation of vertical wind turbines, solar voltaic arrays, thermal barrier (radiant heat) roof and wall coatings and hands-on educational interactive kiosks.  The Museum’s annual  more than 350,000 visitors will also be educated on the benefits of becoming energy efficient and utilizing renewable energy sources through guided and self-guided tours of our institution and interaction with exhibits displaying real time on-site renewable energy generation.
