EPISODE 207: “TAILGATING”

In this episode of ‘Top Chef Masters’ the game is on as the Masters are charged with the task of cooking one of the most difficult parts on any animal – the leg. This quickfire round will be judged by Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer Jason Lezak and food critic Jay Rayner. In the spirit of outdoor entertaining, the elimination challenge brings the chefs to a University of Southern California home football game where they must perfect the art of tailgating for the hungry fans.

DIY NETWORK

GRILLIN’ & CHILLIN’ MEMORIAL DAY MARATHON

Monday, May 31, 7 a.m. – 12 a.m. ET

It’s the holiday that means summer is here, so why not improve your outdoors?  DIY Network will air their best outdoor programs all day long including Desperate Landscapes, Indoors Out, Yard Crashers, King of Dirt, Rock Solid, Move it Outside, Turf War and 10 Best Outdoor Projects to inspire viewers to improve their outdoor living space.  The primetime line-up for DIY Network’s Grillin’ & Chillin’ Memorial Day Marathon is as follows:

  • Indoors Out

6:00 pm ET: “Eco-Entertainment Room” – Dean and Derek help a Virginia couple create an outdoor entertainment room with a green twist that includes a deck with eco-friendly composite wood, a new patio with bluestone pavers, and a pre-fab grilling unit with low emission grill.

6:30pm ET: “Cozy Bar & Dining Room” – A Redskins cheerleader and her construction manager boyfriend are faced with a considerable indoors space challenge – until Dean and Derek come to the rescue by creating a cozy bar and dining room that includes a stone bar with kegerator, flagstone patio, and stone sitting walls.

  • Yard Crashers

7:00 pm ET: “Waterfall Grill” – It’s Yard Crashers largest yard yet.  This huge yard goes from a bare and broken down blank slate to a pristine park. A soccer field gives the kids a place to play while a beautiful paver patio with shade structure above creates a hangout hub for adults. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan creates a patio area which sports a one of a kind “aqua grill” with a water feature on one side and a BBQ on the other.  A fire pit and matching benches add another entertaining area for the entire family to enjoy.

7:30 pm ET: “Pagoda Shed” – A plain old backyard is taken to the next level!  These homeowners get exactly what they asked for- a Japanese inspired yard! An old metal shed is replaced by a stylish pagoda style shed with one-of-a-kind sliding doors.  Plus, this team takes it to the next level with a shade structure and floating deck that actually matches the shed!  A few slate stepping stones, slick barbeque grill, lanterns and lush landscape complete the “crash.”

8:00 pm ET: “BBQ Island” – A small, odd shaped yard is transformed into a griller’s paradise with the addition of a deluxe barbeque island with built-in seating. Overhead, a redwood arbor with stripes of multi-colored shade cloth adds function and an element of design. Surrounding the patio a plank walkway and mow-free grass expand the usable entertaining space.

8:30 pm ET: “Vegas Water Table” – Yard Crashers is hitting up Las Vegas and crashing a desert backyard. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan finds homeowners who can’t get anything to grow in their yard, in fact, it’s just dirt.   In just two days, this backyard transforms from hot desert wasteland to a luxurious outdoor room complete with a custom barbeque island water table, a concrete fire feature, lush synthetic turf grass topped off with some flashy Vegas lights.

  • King of Dirt –“Anniversary Gift” at 9pm ET:

To celebrate their wedding anniversary, Gerard and Beth call Gino Panaro to give them a present they’ve waited for since they moved into their home eight years ago: front yard landscaping.  However, this project is far from a honeymoon for Gino and his brother Ralph.  They get stuck trying to repair a busted chainsaw and Ralph finds himself caught in a very dangerous predicament.  Tensions run high throughout the build and Gino reaches his boiling point when a branch snaps off a new tree.

Yard Crashers – “Urban Spa Deck” at 9:30pm ET:

An unwelcoming spa overlooking a cluttered carport and yellowing lawn gets amped up with a yin-yang makeover. A 600 square foot composite deck mimicking tropical hardwood is built around the hot tub to extend the “hang-ability” factor. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan enhances the view with a hip sheet metal wall which is welded with angular pieces of scrap metal. In the yard, an oversized octagon-shaped fire pit is plunked in the middle of a tranquil garden to give this backyard a chic yet serene style.
