We all have a story to share about one of the most chronic diseases of our time—cancer. Whether through family members, close friends, or even ourselves, cancer touches every life in some way. The Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup seeks to ignite hope and support in the fight against this disease, benefiting Jackson Memorial Foundation, International Kids Fund (IKF), and Holtz Children’s Hospital. Set to take place on November 20th and 21st, 2009, in vibrant Miami, participants will each raise a minimum of $25,000 to enter their personal cars into the event, racing through the city with the chance to draft Celebrity Navigators such as Eva Longoria Parker, Adam Rodríguez of CSI: Miami, and former World Heavyweight Champion Lennox Lewis. The amount raised by each driver determines their position in selecting a celebrity to join them on this exhilarating scavenger hunt.

The Rally for Kids is dedicated to raising funds that support children affected by cancer, aiming not only to improve their lives but also to inch closer to a day when a cure can be celebrated.

At a recent press conference at the Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach, Premier Guide Media met with JR and Loren Ridinger, founders of Market America and staunch supporters of the cause. As they announced Eva Longoria Parker as the honorary chair for the inaugural event, it became clear that their passion for helping others runs deep. “We hope you will get inspired by this and support the cause,” said Loren. “We will rally until we can celebrate a cure; every little bit counts.”

An Emotional Connection

When asked what inspired their involvement with the Rally for Kids with Cancer, JR and Loren shared a heartfelt connection. “Eva and I are very close friends. I think that children are very special. When she came to me with the idea, I could not say no,” Loren reflected. “As a mother of a 17-year-old daughter, I can’t imagine what it would be like to have a child suffering from cancer. I feel it’s an obligation to give back. God has been good to us, and we have to give back.”

The Ridingers’ commitment to the cause is personal; they’ve experienced loss due to cancer firsthand. JR added, “My mom died of cancer at the young age of 52, and I have many friends suffering from breast cancer. It’s a horrible disease, but seeing children suffer is unbearable. They don’t have a voice, and they need the medical attention they deserve.”

A Unique Fundraising Experience

Unlike traditional fundraising events—often characterized by formal attire and seated dinners—the Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup brings a fresh approach to charity. “This event is about getting out there, wearing uniforms, and engaging in lifetime experiences at seven exciting pit stops,” Loren explained. “People can have fun while raising money through our website, reaching out to their friends for support. We’ve seen incredible generosity so far, raising close to $50,000 just by sharing it on our platforms.”

While excitement is infectious, challenges are part of the process, too. JR acknowledged minor technical glitches with their website but emphasized the overwhelming enthusiasm experienced thus far. “It’s been amazing! I encourage everyone, give what you can—every dollar makes a difference.”

Fun Meets Philanthropy

When asked how they plan to inject fun into fundraising, JR and Loren highlighted their unique gala ball, Jewels and Jeans, scheduled for November 21, 2009. “Guests can come in blue jeans and wear their jewels, all while enjoying an incredible time,” JR said. “The secret pit stops remain under wraps, but they promise to be full of surprises and meaningful interactions with the children benefiting from the cause.”

Their commitment to community service extends beyond this single event. “There’s no greater responsibility than giving back,” JR stated. “We are blessed to do well, and we have to give back.”

For those interested in joining the fight against cancer and supporting the Rally for Kids with Cancer, donations can be made through their website. “Every contribution counts, and together, we can make a significant impact,” Loren concluded.

In a world where often events become mere social gatherings, the Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup emphasizes the importance of connecting through shared purpose. “We’re not just raising funds; we’re creating a movement,” JR declared. Let’s rally together for the kids and work toward a future that shines with hope and healing.
