The Mariners Hospital Gordon Present 5K Walk/Run will take place Saturday, November 21, 2009.  The hospital moved up the date a few weeks from previous years at the request of race participants.

The race, along the Old Highway, starts at 8 a.m. at Coral Shores High School, MM 90, and ends at Treasure Village Montessori School, MM 86.9. Proceeds from the race benefit Mariners Hospital Center for Excellence in Nursing, which supports educational programs for Mariners nurses.

The race is certified by Don Nelson of Key West Southernmost Runners Club. Sponsoring the race are Caribee Boat Sales & Marina, Ken Gentes Electrical Contractor, Hershoff, Lupino & Yagel, Jerry and Elaine Hirsch, Nelson and Olga Lazo, Morgan Hampson Insurance, Stan and Jenny Margulies, Joe and Lindy Roth Foundation, I. E. and Betty Anne Schilling, TIB Bank and Tri-City Electric. 

Race participants will have two opportunities to register.  They can come to Mariners Hospital Friday, November 20, from 5 to 7 p.m.  They can also register the day of the race, Saturday, Nov. 21, beginning at 6:30 a.m. at the Montessori school. 

Race participants can park at the Montessori school.  Buses will take them to the starting line.  Buses will leave the Montessori school at 7 a.m., 7:20 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. 

Following the race, an awards ceremony and wellness fair for race participants will take place in the courtyard at the Montessori school.  Medals and ribbons will be awarded to the top three runners in each  age group, the top two walkers in each age group, the first overall male runner and walker, and the first overall female runner and walker.  The age groups run from 10 and younger to 70 and older.

To obtain a registration form, call the race hotline,305- 434-1026, or e-mail jamien@baptisthealth.net.  Registration forms also are available at the Mariners Hospital main lobby, MM 91.5, and Mariners Wellness Center in the Tassell Medical Arts Building on the hospital campus.  Cost is $20 before the race and $25 the day of the race.
