Starting Over: A Way of Life is a testimony that attests to never giving up, and leaving our comfort zone in order to succeed. Luis Echarte uses his life story to land very important, often painful leadership lessons. As a Cuban immigrant who was forced to leave his country during Fidel Castro’s uprising, Luis worked in the family construction business in Miami. He then joined Bacardi, for which he created a worldwide growth strategy. After living in London and traveling to China, Nepal, and Tibet for spiritual renewal, he came to work with Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas, CEO of Grupo Salinas. When Luis was diagnosed with cancer, he began writing this book in which he bravely shares valuable professional and personal life lessons with simplicity and a bright sense of humor.
About the Author
Luis J. Echarte Fernández is chairman of the board of Azteca America, and is also the chairman of the board and CEO of Fundación Azteca America. He is currently director of international affairs for Grupo Salinas and serves on the boards of Azteca, Grupo Elektra, Banco Azteca, and Actinver Securities. He attended Memphis University, University of Florida, and completed the Executive Management Program at Stanford University. He was appointed director of financial strategy of Grupo Salinas, CEO of Azteca America, and CFO of Azteca and Grupo Elektra. In his early career, he was CEO of Bacardi Imports, where he developed a worldwide growth strategy. He travels throughout the United States to organize talks with university students.
