Lotus House Women’s Shelter Gives Thanks!
Lotus House Opens its Doors to the Overtown Neighborhood
at its 5th Annual Thanksgiving Day Celebration

This Thanksgiving Day, the women and children sheltered at Lotus House in Overtown have much to be thankful for – it is a day of reflection, joy, sharing and love for those desperately seeking to build a better way of life off the streets.  It is a day of giving thanks and a day to give back. Based on holistic principles of education, empowerment and the strength of community, it comes as no surprise that at Lotus House it is the homeless that do the serving on Thanksgiving Day! And they will be serving over 500 holiday meals to their friends and neighbors in Overtown, as a way of saying thanks and giving back to a community also in need.

Lotus House (at 217 NW 15th Street, near corner of NW 3rd Ave) will open its doors, starting at noon, to its friends and neighbors in Overtown for the “Fifth Annual Thanksgiving Day Celebration.” The women will serve over 500 meals of roast turkey and all the fixin’s, specially prepared by People’s Barbeque, along with home-baked rolls by Vicki Kitzen and friends, at the annual holiday celebration.

“The Overtown neighborhood has been deeply supportive of Lotus House since the day we opened our doors to serve women and children in need.  Giving back is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our friends and neighbors,” said Constance Collins Margulies, Lotus House Director. “And we invite the whole community to join us in celebrating a holiday that reminds us we are all one and so blessed to be sharing our journey together.”  Miami philanthropist Martin Z. Margulies is sponsoring the Thanksgiving Day dinner at the shelter, this year as in past years.
