Local Company Donates Sporting Equipment to Miami-Dade Schools

Ronald F. DeMeo, M.D., surgeon and medical director of Meridian Spine and Interventional Pain Medicine in Coral Gables, Fla., donated much-needed athletic equipment to 30 Miami-Dade elementary, middle and high schools.

Students and faculty from throughout Miami-Dade gathered at Booker T. Washington Senior High School recently to accept the donation, which included 175 basketballs, 192 baseballs, 50 bats, 192 footballs, and 200 jump ropes.

The donation comes in light of a continued rise in obesity, cardiovascular diseases and other health issues among youths, combined with recent budget cuts that are leaving public schools in need of basic athletic equipment.

Nearly $20,000 in athletic equipment donated to 30 public schools in Miami-Dade.
