Local Community Fights Breast Cancer Through American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Sunday, October 9th, 2011
Registration: 8:00 AM
Walk Starts: 9:00 AM

Thousands of local breast cancer survivors, volunteers, businesses and community members will unite to fight breast cancer at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk. This noncompetitive, inspirational event raises awareness and funds to fight breast cancer and provides hope to all people facing the disease. Miami-Dade’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is one of more than 25 walks being held throughout Florida this year. More than 12,000 women in Florida will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year, and more than 2,700 will die from the disease. Participants will need more than sneakers for this year’s walk, as they are encouraged to “Put On Your Pink Bra.” The “Put On Your Pink Bra” campaign empowers walkers to wear pink bras in support of the fight against breast cancer. All across the state, walkers will sport pink bras to represent a personal breast cancer journey or the journey of a survivor they know.
