LEVON HELM & RAY LAMONTAGNE Pompano Beach Amphitheater

Legendary singer/songwriter/musician Levon Helm comes to the Pompano Beach Amphitheater on Thursday, November 4th. He is joined by the unique, earthly vocals of singer Ray LaMontagne who opens the show.

Best known for his work with the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame group The Band, Levon Helm is fresh off his second consecutive Grammy nomination for his latest release Electric Dirt.  The release of the album marked Levon’s highest debut in the Soundscan era at #36 and spent six consecutive weeks at #1 on the Americana Radio Chart.  Winning over critics, yet again, Electric Dirt went on to receive a Grammy nomination for “Best Americana Album.” Throughout the year and on most Saturday nights, The Levon Helm Band continues to play to sold out crowds at his weekly ‘Midnight Ramble’ concerts.  Hailed by Rolling Stone as “2008’s Best Jam Session”, the joy, spirit and reverence of these concerts have been captured in a photographic tribute by Paul LaRaia in his new book The Levon Helm Midnight Ramble.  Now Levon brings this same energy and excitement to Pompano Beach Amphitheatre.

With a voice that recalls a huskier, sandpaper version of Van Morrison and Tim Buckley, Ray LaMontagne creates folk songs that are alternately lush and intimately earthy. LaMontagne’s debut album, Trouble, was released in the fall of 2004, impressing critics with such songs as the title tune, “Trouble,” and the cinematic style of pieces like “Narrow Escape.” A follow-up album, Till the Sun Turns Black, appeared in 2006 and widened LaMontagne’s palette by incorporating horns and strings. Gossip in the Grain followed in 2008. Ray LaMontagne just released his highly anticipated new album, God Willin & The Creek Don’t Rise.  The new album includes the fantastic single, “Beg Steal Or Borrow.”
