Kimpton’s EPIC Hotel Gives Local Elementary Students a Lesson in Environmental Responsibility

Alessandro Passalacqua, EPIC’s Director of Engineering, teaches students from KIDWORKS USA about  environmental responsibility during EPIC’s Community Awareness Day on April 20.As part of Kimpton’s EarthCare Week, a week-long celebration of environmental and service-focused events and activities for guests, staff and the local community, Kimpton’s EPIC Hotel in downtown Miami joined the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe in welcoming local elementary students for Community Awareness Day on Wednesday, April 20.

Just in time for Earth Day, students met with EPIC’s Director of Engineering, Alessandro Passalacqua, to learn about environmental responsibility, energy conservation and recycling. Following the presentation, students were able to ask questions about environmental responsibility and enjoy a walk through EPIC’s engineering offices and control room.

The Green Seal Certified EPIC is one of 51 hotels and 53 restaurants across the country helping to honor Kimpton’s 30-year commitment to environmental responsibility and care by bringing Earth Day to new heights with Kimpton’s EarthCare Week, held from April 15 – 22, 2011. The celebration comes as the U.N. Environment Programme (UNEP) announced recently that one of the fastest and most promising green industries is sustainable tourism, with travelers paying increasing attention to green travel service suppliers, and opting for more green travel choices.

EPIC Hotel’s EarthCare Week concluded with a fundraising and awareness-building event for the Trust for Public Land on EPIC’s 16th floor pool deck on April 21. A donation was encouraged to attend the event, which also included a silent auction. All proceeds from the event, which totaled over $2,500, will be donated to the Trust for Public Land.
