The 4th Annual Key West Film Festival announced today its official 2015 line-up including the opening night film Spotlight, directed by Tom McCarthy and starring Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery and Brian d’Arcy James, and the Saturday night Spotlight film Carol, directed by Todd Haynes and starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. As part of the festival’s Critics’ Choice series, Ann Hornaday, film critic for the Washington Post, will host a Q&A for Spotlight with Sacha Pfeiffer and Michael Rezendes, two of the journalists who’s real life work is featured in the film. Hornaday will join Indiewire’s chief film critic Eric Kohn, also participating in the Critic’s Choice program, to host a discussion following Carol.
This year’s festival hosts a 20th anniversary screening of Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls. Verhoeven will attend the screening and participate in a conversation with Adam Nayman, film critic and author of “It Doesn’t Suck,” a critical study of the film. At the SaturdayAwards ceremony, Verhoeven will receive the 2015 Golden Key Award for Career Achievement. The festival also features Bob Yari’s Hemingway biopic Papa, starring Giovanni Ribisi, Joely Richardson and Adrian Sparks and featuring a Q&A with Yari and Richardson, and Amy Berg’s highly anticipated film Janis: Little Blue Girl, which will feature an appearance at the festival by Michael Joplin, the younger brother of Janis.
The festival will take place in Key West from November 18th through November 22nd and includes gala screenings and a curated selection of over 25 films encompassing narrative features, documentaries, foreign language cinema, LGBTQ cinema and works by Florida filmmakers. Celebrated filmmakers and actors will attend the festival this year, including returning guests Angus MacLachlan, who will host a screening of select short films from the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and Anson Mount, as well as director Neil LaBute, actress Lori Singer and others.
Key West Film Festival previously announced a new annual Critics Focus program in which the nation’s top film critics will be invited to curate spotlight selections. Also recently announced was the new annual Brett Ratner Florida Student Filmmaker Scholarship, a $5000 scholarship that will be presented by Brett Ratner to the winner of the showcase of 12 films from Florida’s top film schools.
