KC and the Sunshine Band to Perform Live at Homestead-Miami prior to Sunday’s Sprint Cup Championship

KC and the Sunshine Band

The world’s best stock car drivers take to the variable banking at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend, as all three of NASCAR’s premier racing circuits—the Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series—again will crown Champions in South Florida. Setting the sound track for Sprint Cup Sunday: Miami’s own KC and the Sunshine Band, led, of course, by the “Founder of the Dance Revolution” himself.

A South Florida native (Hialeah), Harry Wayne Casey (“KC”) dubbed his crew the “Sunshine Band” after the moniker of his home state. The iconic dance legends will perform a full set this Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m., rocking the Coca-Cola Entertainment Stage in the midway adjacent to the front-stretch grandstands. The band that danced its way on to the music scene more than 35 years ago with a unique fusion of R&B, funk and Latin percussion will draw from its catalogue of chart-topping hits that includes “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s The Way (I Like It),” “Shake Your Booty” and “Keep It Comin’ Love.”

“This Sunday, we’re going to crown the Champion of the closest Chase race for the Sprint Cup in the history of the sport,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer. “Who better than KC and the Sunshine Band to set a groove before NASCAR’s best hit the grooves of our variable-banked oval for Ford Championship Weekend? With the addition of this Championship entertainment included in the ticket price of just $55, we just kicked our all-day, outdoor, sun-splashed bash into another gear.”

On Sunday, Homestead-Miami Speedway will host a one-race shootout to decide the closest-ever Sprint Cup Chase Championship in NASCAR history. Denny Hamlin enters Ford Championship Weekend (Nov. 19-21) with a 15-point lead over four-time reigning Champion Jimmie Johnson and just a 46-point margin over Kevin Harvick. Tickets for this historic Championship finale are available starting at $55 via HomesteadMiamiSpeedway.com and (866) 409-RACE. Parking, as always, is FREE at Homestead- Miami Speedway, and fans are invited to bring their own food and drink into the Speedway in a cooler not to exceed 14x14x14 inches in dimension.

En route to more than 100 million records sold, KC and the Sunshine Band became the first act to score four No. 1 pop singles in a 12-month period since the Beatles in 1964. The band also received Grammy Awards for “Album of the Year” and “Producer of the Year” for its work on the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack, and in 2002 KC was honored with a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Today, KC’s music is being sampled by rappers, as a whole new generations of fans are introduced to his music.
