The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is proud to announce its first JUNETEENTH JUKE JOINT, a community celebration of Black freedom and culture.
Inspired by the vibe created by the backwoods, roadside establishments run and patronized by Black Americans in the years after slavery ended, the JUNETEENTH JUKE JOINT will transform the Arsht Center’s Peacock Foundation Studio into a one-night-only hotspot for dancing, live music, cocktails and celebrating with neighbors and friends. The night will feature pan-African beats by DJ Nickymix (@nickymix) followed by the soulful sounds of Miami-based R&B singer LaVie (@laviemusic), whose performance will take the audience on a journey through the rich history of Black music, featuring soul, blues, R&B and everything in between.
Audiences ages 18+ are encouraged to arrive as soon as doors open at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy a specially curated menu featuring delicious soul food-inspired bites and libations for those 21 and over. The $15 menu will include southern favorites, including BBQ, fried chicken wings, mac and cheese, sweet potato fritters, banana pudding, and red velvet shooters. Vegetarian/vegan options and a full bar will be available for purchase all evening.
General admission tickets to the JUNETEENTH JUKE JOINT are available for $25. VIP tables are available from $100 for two guests and include guaranteed premium cabaret-style seating and two cocktails. The Juneteenth holiday commemorates the effective end of slavery, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865 to free enslaved people. For generations, Juneteenth has been celebrated with gatherings, cookouts, music, laughter and pride in Black freedom.
The JUNETEENTH JUKE JOINT is part of the Arsht Center’s The Heritage Project, which was created with a commitment to promote social equality and amplify Black voices. The Arsht Center celebrates Black artists throughout our community through The Heritage Project’s salon series, Heritage Fest and other special events all year long.
