JOHN DENNEY CHOSEN AS COACH’S SELECTION FOR THE 2011 PRO BOWL

Miami Dolphins long snapper John Denney has been added to the 2011 AFC Pro Bowl team as the squad’s 43rd player (coach’s selection), it was announced today. The six-year pro from Brigham Young served as the long snapper in all 16 games in 2010. He has now played in all 96 games in his career.

“It’s an honor to be named to the AFC Pro Bowl team and it always feels nice to be recognized by people attached to the game,” said Denney.  “These opportunities are not possible without a great supporting staff like Dan (kicker Dan Carpenter), Brandon (punter Brandon Fields), Rizz (Special Teams Coach Darren Rizzi), and Bono (former Special Teams Coordinator John Bonamego), along with everyone else on the special teams. You don’t expect a long snapper to be recognized and it’s a testament to all the hard work they all put in over the course of my Dolphin career. I’m looking forward to representing the team and joining Cam (Wake) in Hawaii.”

Denny becomes the second Dolphin “need” player added to the Pro Bowl team in franchise history, along with linebacker Zach Thomas in 2000. In addition, he becomes only the second non-punting or kicking Dolphin special teams player named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad in Dolphin history, joining special teamer Larry Izzo, a 2000 selection.

Denney joins Jake Long and Cameron Wake as Pro Bowl selections from the Miami Dolphins in 2011, with Long withdrawing from the game due to injury. The 2011 Pro Bowl will take place on January 30 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
