James Rosenquist Talk and Book Signing at The Wolfsonian

RosenquistJames Rosenquist Talk and Book Signing at The Wolfsonian
Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 7pm

Iconic pop artist James Rosenquist (b. 1933) will be at The Wolfsonian on Saturday, November 21 at 7pm for a talk about his life and work followed by a book signing and reception to celebrate his just-published memoir Painting Below Zero: Notes on a Life in Art (Knopf, 2009). Rosenquist is known for his vast canvases, surreally juxtaposed images, and complex palette. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad, is in the collections of many major museums, and he has had more than fifteen retrospectives, including four at the Guggenheim Museum and two at the Whitney Museum of Art. His memoir includes discussions of many of his major paintings and the ideas behind them as well as his experiences with dealers and collectors. “We are thrilled to host at the museum one of the most important living artists,” says Cathy Leff, The Wolfsonian’s director. “The fact that we have the opportunity to honor and celebrate James Rosenquist is even more special for us since he serves on our Honorary Council. We are also grateful to Marvin Ross Friedman, a close friend of Jim’s, for helping to arrange this presentation.” The event is free, with preferred seating for Wolfsonian members, and Rosenquist’s memoir is available for purchase at The Dynamo Museum Shop. RSVP is required.
