Inside the Museum – A Pop Art Perspective from Burton Morris at Adamar Fine Arts

Adamar Fine Arts, one of Miami’s premier art galleries in the Miami Design District, is proud to announce a Burton Morris exhibition, whose work builds on the legacy of Warhol and other Pop artist masters from the 1960’s and 1970’s.  For the first time in Miami, the gallery will feature Inside the Museum – A Pop Art Perspective, and the popular Night Table series returns, opening March 12 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm.

Pop icons are associated with objects or moments that represent their core and Burton Morris zeroes in on their essence, creating works that capture them in living rich acrylic colors.  Think Marilyn Monroe, and you may conjure up the image of her in the billowing white dress over the NYC subway vent, or her brief and tumultuous marriage to Yankee great Joe DiMaggio, and please, let’s not forget “Happy Birthday, Mr. President…”  Only Burton Morris captures these symbols of Monroe creating a work that is at once totally representative of the starlet’s life and career – rendered in vibrant living color.  So, it doesn’t take much imagination to consider what he has done for James Dean and Audrey Hepburn as part of the Night Tables series.

Inside the Museum – A Pop Art Perspective, Morris turns curator in museums that only exist on canvas.  Paying homage to the inspiration of the great Pop artists, he juxtaposed his most iconic paintings alongside theirs, creating pure and simple irony. Step inside the Lichtenstein Museum and you’ll find Bananas and Grapefruits alongside King Kong by Morris.  Think you’re seeing double? You just tripped into the Warhol Museum where Marilyn and Martini’s are not quite mirror reflections.  It is creative genius at its best.  Taking it one step further, Adamar continues the tongue-in-cheek by hanging Morris’ original paintings next to those featured in the new “museum” series.

The show opens on March 12 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm as part of the celebration of the monthly Art and Design Night series in Miami.  For more information please call 305.756.1355.
