As part of its “35th Anniversary Celebration,” Hospice by the Sea, Inc. has planned a reunion for children and volunteers who have attended Camp Good Grief over the past 18 years. A variety of recreational activities as well as a picnic lunch at Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park’s Family and Classroom Patio Pavilions are planned for June 8, 2013, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that can be enjoyed by adults and children of all ages.

For 18 years, Hospice by the Sea has conducted Camp Good Grief (CGG) twice each year for children from Palm Beach and Broward Counties who have lost a loved one. Campers, 5 to 15 years of age, get the opportunity and the tools they need to help them grieve in a healthy way. The children participate in therapeutic activities that include journaling, trust building exercises, drumming, as well as traditional camp sports and games. They learn to come in to touch with their emotions and how to express them in different ways.

Each activity is carefully planned and executed by a member of the Camp Good Grief staff. Counselors are often recruited from the marriage and family therapy graduate programs at Florida Atlantic University and NOVA. Nurses, social workers and specially trained community volunteers donate their time as well.

Camp Good Grief is offered free of charge to children and families from nonprofit organizations, health organizations and the school districts of Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Care for a loved one provided by Hospice by the Sea is not a requirement of prospective campers.

All campers who attended CCG as well as their parents and volunteers are encouraged to enjoy the reunion festivities. They should RSVP that they wish to attend by June 4th to Margo Thomas at 561-416-5113 or by emailing her at mthomas@hbts.org. Information about upcoming camps or volunteer opportunities, schedules and application forms can be obtained from Chris Golia, Director of Volunteer Services at 561-416-5110.

Since 1978, Hospice by the Sea, Inc. has provided compassionate hospice care to patients and families in Palm Beach and Broward Counties.
