Crime in Miami

Investigate the facts and fictions behind Miami’s unique criminal history in our upcoming exhibition, Crime in Miami. Learn about prohibition-era rumrunners and infamous gangsters such as Al Capone, unsolved murder cases of the 1950s and the drug wars of the 1980s. On display are artifacts, photographs, and documents from the musem’s collection along with material from other institutions, including the Miami-Dade County Clerks Office and the Florida Department of Corrections. Natural Disasters of the Caribbean, 1495-2010

Come learn about the images and objects relating to historic disasters in the Caribbean. On display through August 29, Natural Disasters of the Caribbean, 1495-2010 explores earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and hurricanes the people of the Caribbean have endured. This exhibition will present images and objects relating to historic disasters, beginning with the first recorded event—a ca. 1500 hurricane described by Christopher Columbus. Prints, photographs and images from HistoryMiami’s collections will illustrate various natural disasters, including the 1690 and 1907 Jamaica earthquakes; the 1902 St Vincent and 1904 Martinique volcanic eruptions; and the 1926 Bahamas and Cuba hurricanes. Tropical Adventures Summer Camp

Join museum resident historian Dr. Paul George and Rene Ramos and Barron Sherer of the Lynn and LouisWolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives as they screen and discuss television news coverage of crime in Miami.
